Refrigeration

Make sure you have enough space tocomfortably store your food – this will make sure nothing gets spoiled and alsowill help you to easily identify and remove the produce you need. If you’relooking to be green always ensure your refrigeration units are well away from your cooking machines.

Sink Units

No commercial kitchen can do without asink or two. In an ideal world you would have a sink for cleaning fluids/hand washing,a food prep sink and a sink for washing up cookware and other items. You canalso supplement your sinks with warewashing equipment such as dishwashers, glasswashers and even cutlery polishers.

Ovens

Ovens can be gas, electric, steam,combination, induction, convection or dual fuel. With so many to choose from,consider what you will be using them for and how often – this should set you inthe right direction.

Cookware

No kitchen - commercial or domestic,can do without cookware – pots, pans, trays and tins. Keep a good selection so you are prepared for alleventualities from a meal for one, to a table of 20. Plus, you’ll always havesome in reserve if your dishwashing schedule is behind!

Knives

No kitchen can function without a goodset of chefs knives. Keep them clean and sharpen them regularly and they should lasta long time. Select brands that are trustworthy, such as Global or Victorinox, and ensure you have a wide selection for all types of foodpreparation.

Nisbets Environmental Results 2011

We are pleased to announce that out of the 1029 tonnes of waste that Nisbets produced throughout 2011, we have recycled 942 tonnes. We hope you'll agree this is a significant amount, over 90%! Our average monthly recycling rate was 92%, and the average commercial recycling rate in the UK is just 52.1%.

We sent 384 tonnes of cardboard and paper for recycling.
We saved 1,929,000 KwH of energy (enough to supply over 174k houses).
We saved 115,200,000 litres of water and almost 8000 trees, which is enough to produce almost 2 million toilet rolls or 127k reams of copier paper!

Each year in Britain we throw away 28 million tonnes of rubbish from our homes, and over 80% of this could be recycled.

Product Knowledge 101: Chafing Dishes

Welcome to our first Product Knowledge 101 post,where we will be providing the basic ‘need to know’ facts on some of our mostpopular products. This week we’re looking at Chafing Dishes.

What is a Chafing Dish?

A chafing dish is a container that keeps foodwarm for an extended period of time. They usually consist of an outer containerwhich you part fill with liquid. You then insert the inner container and thecontents within will be kept warm. Another type of chafing dish uses fuel thatsits underneath and heats the contents from below.

What can I use it for?

Chafing dishes have a multitude of uses fromliquids to solids. At breakfast time they can be used for fried eggs, Frenchtoast, to warm croissants or to keep sausages and bacon warm. For lunch theycan be used for pasta dishes, all types of potatoes, quiches or vegetables andfor dinner they can be used for roasted meats (full joints or sliced), sidedishes and warm desserts.

What types are available?

Chafing dishes come in a variety of sizes andshapes. Nisbets stocks the standard rectangle chafer, along with square and circular chafers and these range insize from 6 to 9 litres. You can also purchase gastronorm pans to go inside, along with fuel or spare heating elements.

Apple was purchased by Nisbets at auction and funds from the auction were divided between Bristol Children's hospital Wallace and Gromit's Grand Appeal and Bristol Zoo conservation. Apple can now be seen displayed proudly in his new home - the Nisbets Avonmouth Trade Counter window, where we are sure he will be very happy.

The September 2011 edition of the Nisbets catalogue is out now and features over 1000 new products for our customers. Not only do we have even more new products available than last month, but the catalogue has a new look to it too. Whereas before the edges of the pages were completely filled with colour, only the top and bottom of the edge of the page now have colour, meaning when you are the actual page, the page is framed.

We have made the layout of the pages clearer to make it easier to view the details of the products you want. Items such as the Vogue Stainless Steel Gastronorm Pans are spaced out more on the page, giving you more information about the brand and pointing out that these are in fact some of our best sellers along with items such as the Rubber Fatigue Relief Mat and our range of Jantex Paper Refills.

Included among the new products is de Buyer premium quality French cookware which offers a range of stainless steel and copper pans. De Buyer offers a high quality combination of stainless steel and aluminium pan. The multi layers of material allow heat to spread through the pan and leave food heated for longer. The high quality copper cookware provides extraordinary conduction, which makes it particularly suitable for cooking and reducing.
