Welcome to our first Product Knowledge 101 post,
where we will be providing the basic ‘need to know’ facts on some of our most
popular products. This week we’re looking at Chafing Dishes.
What is a Chafing Dish?
A chafing dish is a container that keeps food
warm for an extended period of time. They usually consist of an outer container
which you part fill with liquid. You then insert the inner container and the
contents within will be kept warm. Another type of chafing dish uses fuel that
sits underneath and heats the contents from below.
What can I use it for?
Chafing dishes have a multitude of uses from
liquids to solids. At breakfast time they can be used for fried eggs, French
toast, to warm croissants or to keep sausages and bacon warm. For lunch they
can be used for pasta dishes, all types of potatoes, quiches or vegetables and
for dinner they can be used for roasted meats (full joints or sliced), side
dishes and warm desserts.
What types are available?
Chafing dishes come in a variety of sizes and
shapes. Nisbets stocks the standard rectangle chafer, along with square and circular chafers and these range in
size from 6 to 9 litres. You can also purchase gastronorm pans to go inside, along with fuel or spare heating elements.
