Ideal Skillset Blogseries: Maitre’d

In our third and final ‘Ideal Skillset’ post we are looking at what it means and what it takes to be a Maitre’d.

Role & Responsibilities

A Maitre’d is the first point of contact for any patron. You will be expected to greet customers, ensure they are comfortable and happy in their seats, answer any questions, recommend wines and drinks to accompany their meals and take bookings over the phone.

Abilities

You will be professional, personable and approachable as well as being extremely organized with excellent phone and face-to-face communication skills. You should have knowledge of food and drink and be able to pick appropriate lighting and music to create the right ambiance for customers. You should also have experience of conflict resolution as you will be expected to deal with customer complaints.

Jubilee Party Planning V: Jugs & Cups

Its time to talk cups! Choosing the vessels your guests will drink out of on this very special occasion is of upmost importance. You should also consider larger jugs for cocktails or other mixers as this will enable guests to help themselves to beverages as and when they wish – mean you don’t have to keep an eye on everyones glasses!
